Farrukhabad township is divided into two towns, Fatehgarh and Farrukhabad. The Ganges and Ramganga rivers flow to the east, and the Kali River to the south. Fatehgarh derives its name from the old fort. Fatehgarh has been a military station of considerable importance and in 1802 became the headquarters of the Governor-General's Agent for the Gaddi Provinces.
